Chapter 2: Shaughnessy has listed few professional skills that are needed for a designer to be “A Designer”. All of these skills are obvious and easy but as he pointed out real essential. Take time management as a skill for example it is very important to mange your time and plan your projects accordingly but unfortunately I lack this skill most of the time. I am as the say easily distracted and if I am not I try to take too many tasks that I cannot handle and at the end it reflects on my work.

Chapter3: I am applying for an internship for this summer and I have no idea where to start or what to expect and this chapter was so helpful in so many ways. It gave provided me with lost of great knowledge that I haven’t learn yet.

Chapter4: In my won perspective freelancing is the dream. The way I see it most of the creative designers are freelancers that must tell something. I think that in order to be real successful in freelancing you must have two very important things

1-    Be very comfortable in talking about your work and promoting your self.

2-    And you have to very good at what you do.

Even with those skills freelancing for a designer is a harder job than any other, in my won opinion.

Over all I think this reading were eye opening and they have helped me in many and different ways.

The way I see it Technology can add beautiful and wonderful thing to design. It can take it to places that go beyond a designer’s perspective. I know that trying to keep up with technology “coding and programing” is such a tiring thing especially that it change rapidly but having the privilege of Technology and have it by a designers side can make a designers project goes beyond what he/she excepted by getting people involved, participating ,and have others experience it.

Process work

Hard work, the knowledge of others, and creativity is the hart of good design that’s my strong believe. I love teaching others about what I know so I always try to spread the wonderful knowledge of design beyond the recognition of it. I believe in creating things that I truly believe in and enjoy that’s why you must LOVE WHAT YOU DO or stop doing it.

When the author listed the things that a “modern designer” needs in order to be successful I freaked out. He listed SO MANY things. Even when summed up in to three it still did not make me feel better. Because the way my personality is and they way that I am these simple three attributes are very difficult to me. Take for example COMUNICATION.  I know that being a good designer requires you to have the ability to take about what you do easily unfortunately, I am a person who does not know how to explain an idea or a project that I am doing easily and sometimes I might harm the designs that I have created by simple explaining what it is. The good thing is I know that communication is essential to a designer that’s why I am trying to better my self.

WOW this is a wonderful reading it talked about things in life that are very much true yet we are not aware of. Personally I liked rule number 8 Doubt Is Better Than Certainty. It is really good to hear that it is O.K. to be uncertain. Due to the fact that we are designers we must rethink ideas and that in my opinion what makes good designs even better. Even though confidence in your design is a must especially when you are confronted with clients and audience because the confident you are the more that it will support your work.

I have never saw a noticeable difference between Art and Design, thought others may argue. I think that once we “designers and artists” start doing things and create, Art and Design merge together and each person shapes to be what they are interested in. I know there are lots of designers that can draw and design at the same time so what dose that make them an artist or a designer?
